Still Here, Still Writing

I’ve been MIA again from this blog for the past several months, but that’s because I’ve been focused on my work in progress and haven’t made time for any other writing tasks lately. And I have made a LOT of progress!

I’ve been in the editing trenches for a while, still making tweaks and adjustments, but I’m getting really excited about how close I am to the final finish line of this project. I’ve established some writing habits that have really helped – things like setting a timer and writing for 25-30 minutes right after work have made a huge difference. I used to think small chunks of time like that weren’t as impactful, but it’s amazing how those little writing sessions add up over time. The key is consistency!

I also purchased several writing reference books and have been exploring writing events and conferences, with the hope that I can attend some sessions this summer.

Another change I’ve made is scheduling time to make and build connections with local artist/writer friends, meeting for coffee or at public libraries to chat about books, writing, and our creative projects. Building these friendships with other people who get what it’s like has helped me work through more than just plot holes and awkward sections of prose. I’m thankful for these friendships and to be a part of this little creative community!

I still don’t have a definite timeline for publication figured out. Every time I think I’m getting close, it gets pushed back because I come across some new research about the woman who inspired the story, or I dig into a particularly sticky section that takes longer to revise than I had expected. One of my most important upcoming tasks is to plan out a timeline for commissioning the cover art, recruiting beta readers, formatting, setting up signings and events, and all of the other thousands of things involved in putting a book out there into the world.

Oh yeah, and figuring out a title. That would be helpful, too. 😜
