April Book Club Meeting

Earlier this week, my book club met for dinner at the Miller House in downtown Owensboro for our regular monthly meeting. We had a special guest – Eddie Price, author of Widder’s Landing, which was our book selection for April.

Eddie was actually my history teacher when I was in high school, so it was great to reconnect with him after all of these years and reminisce. He was very excited to hear about my new book, Waverly: A Novel, and we had fun chatting with the group about the writing assignments he gave my class in high school many years ago.

While we enjoyed dinner, Eddie talked about his writing process, the research involved in writing historical fiction, and the publishing process. He also shared about the many speaking engagement opportunities he has been given as a result of his books. He travels the county, sharing historical presentations with audiences on a variety of topics related to his writing.

Widder’s Landing is a whopping 848 pages. Gulp! I have to admit, I was pretty intimidated about finishing it in time for our meeting. Once I got started, however, I had no trouble investing the time it took to finish.

This book has it all – romance, adventure, war, river pirates, natural disasters, dastardly villains, and more! Despite its length, the story kept up a good pace with plenty of suspense to keep me hooked. I got so caught up in the story and lost in the world Eddie has created that I was honestly sad when I read the last page and knew the journey was over. I learned so much about Kentucky history, but I also adored the characters and the way their stories unfolded. Eddie describes them in a way that makes them truly come alive.

At our book club meeting, I was excited to hear Eddie has written a sequel, One Drop – a Slave!, which follows many of the characters from Widder’s Landing, while also introducing some new folks. I can’t wait to get started on it!

If you’d like more info about Eddie’s historical fiction books or his adorable Little Miss Grubby Toes series of children’s books, please check out his website here.

Happy reading! 🙂
